Based on the novel The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn, it stars Bradley Cooper as Edward Morra, a down-and-out writer who has problems meeting deadlines and just got dumped by his girlfriend, Lindy (Abbie Cornish). He bumps into his former brother-in-law, Vernon, a dealer who offers Eddie some help in the form of a pill, NZT, which he claims helps to access 100% of the brain’s power. Eddie becomes a changed man; he learns new languages, finishes his book, becomes rich overnight after dabbling in the stock market. As the supply of NZT dwindles, he starts to experience the nasty side effects of NZT and finds himself being pursued by others who are after the same drug.
This is quite the thriller and I was kinda psyched when I saw Anna Friel’s name pop up when the film began, until she appeared. Oh well, it’s good to see the Pushing Daisies cast up and about (OMG. Lee Pace will be in Breaking Dawn!). So, the other moment where I got really excited was when Lindy was being pursued by this really creepy man. She could really kick some ass! Bradley Cooper was really cool; whether he was speaking in tongues or just doing algorithms but I guess it all worked until he spoke Mandarin. OMG, I think James Marsden did a better job in Hop.
3 and a half out of 5 stars
