Super 8 (2011)

In the summer of 1979, a group of friends were out after dark filming their zombie movie with their Super 8 camera when they witnessed a train crash. Strange things start to happen in their town – missing people, lost dogs and stolen electronic devices like microwaves and car engines.

I didn’t think I would like this as much as I did after watching it. I mean, there’s some extra-terrestrial element and I was hoping it wouldn’t be like Cloverfield because that was really nauseating (fact). Super 8 had themes of family and adolescent friendship and at the same time, the alien was freaking the townsfolk. Not gonna spoil much about the alien but I’d say the gas station scene freaked me out the most and I guess it’s a lesson for people who like to blast music on their earphones. The ending was believable too, so yeah, enjoying this was kinda unexpected.

The kids were funny, especially when they were filming and Charles can be quite the bully when he wants things to be perfect. It’s kinda amazing that these kids were know their stuff about filming, lighting and (zombie) makeup.

STAY DURING THE CREDITS TO WATCH THE KIDS’ ZOMBIE FILM!
